Pep Guardiola will attempt to bolster Manchester City’s roster this summer in preparation for another Premier League title challenge.Manchester City may be compelled to spend a substantial amount of money this summer to re-sign two former champions, Douglas Luiz and Pedro Porro, according to reports.

In anticipation of a tranquil last two weeks of the January transfer window, City will need to reinvest in the squad in preparation for another title challenge. Particular attention will be paid to the situations at right back and central midfield, as Kyle Walker turns 34 in May and Kalvin Phillips is expected to depart this month or at the conclusion of the season. Moreover, Football Insider reports that Pep Guardiola may attempt to re-sign two former Chelsea players, albeit at a price. Tottenham and Aston Villa reportedly placed a 100 million pounds on Porro and Luiz, respectively, which represents a substantial increase from the selling price of both players by City.It is rumored that the Etihad management has a “strong interest” in Porro, who has performed admirably for Tottenham this season under Ange Postecoglou. The right-back was acquired by City in 2019 from sibling club Girona. However, following loan stints at Real Valladolid and Sporting Lisbon, he was sold to the latter in 2022 for a mere £7.2 million.

Sporting sanctioned Tottenham’s £42 million acquisition of Porro a year ago after earning a substantial profit on him in the Portuguese capital, but the 24-year-old’s stock has continued to rise. This season, he has provided seven assists in the Premier League, and Postecoglou has him mastered the inverted full-back position that Guardiola so admired. In 2017, Luiz departed City on loan for Girona. Following two seasons with the club, he was transferred to Aston Villa for £15 million without having appeared for the Blues. However, due to his performance in the Midlands, especially under Unai Emery, the Brazilian has become one of the finest defensive midfielders in the league. Arsenal, a longtime admirer of the 25-year-old Luiz, is believed to have had multiple offers for him rejected. But their summer acquisition of Declan Rice for more than £100 million will presumably eliminate them from contention. However, Barcelona and Liverpool are mentioned in the report as possible competitors.A transfer for the two would represent a significant and expensive U-turn for City, as their acquisitions generated only £22.2 million in revenue but could cost nearly ten times that amount a few years later. The Blues would naturally prefer to negotiate a reduction in rumored £100 million fees on both sides; however, Porro is bound by a long-term contract with Tottenham and Luiz’s deal with Villa expires in 2026.
