This evening, Manchester City will play Newcastle at St. James’ Park, marking their return to action in the Premier League. Considering that their primary competitors for the championship are not scheduled to compete this weekend, Manchester City has the opportunity to overtake Aston Villa into second position and bring the distance between them and Liverpool, who are currently in first place, down to two points.

The most recent victory for City came over the weekend, when they defeated Huddersfield Town by a score of 5-0 in the FA Cup. City is currently on a running streak of five consecutive victories. The home team, on the other hand, is currently experiencing a terrible run of form in the league, having lost their previous three matches. They will be hoping that their victory over Sunderland in the FA Cup Tyne-Wear derby last weekend would bring about a turn of fortune for them.

In spite of the fact that Jack Grealish has been suffering from a sickness this week, City will be traveling to the north-east without Erling Haaland, John Stones, and Manuel Akanji.

However, Grealish will be on the bench for the match. Pep Guardiola claimed with complete assurance in his press conference yesterday that Kevin De Bruyne was prepared to start today.

This was in response to the fact that he had returned from the substitutes’ bench over the weekend. However, the excellent Belgian player has been listed as a substitute.

Joelinton, a midfielder for Newcastle, has been ruled out with a thigh injury and is expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks.

Although Harvey Barnes (toe) has resumed light training and Jacob Murphy (shoulder) is getting closer to making a comeback, Nick Pope, Matt Targett, Javier Manquillo, Joe Willock, Elliot Anderson, and Callum Wilson are still on the list of players who have been injured and are unable for action.

This is a suspension for Sandro Tonali.
