“I was truly hoping”: Phil Thompson identifies the Liverpool manager he desired to succeed Jurgen Klopp.Following the announcement of Jurgen Klopp’s departure from Liverpool this morning, speculation has shifted to his replacement.
Thus far, in all honesty, only two candidates have been credibly proposed. The first is Xabi Alonso, who has been called upon to perform the duty by former Liverpool forward Ryan Babel. Pep Lijnders, the incumbent assistant manager, is the second.
Reporter Jim White made reference to Lijnders on TalkSPORT this morning. However, liverpoolfc.com has confirmed that the Dutch coach will depart with Klopp at the conclusion of the season, per White’s suggestion.
That is a serious disgrace, in the opinion of Phil Thompson. Additionally, the former Liverpool captain told TalkSPORT that he wished Lijnders had been given a chance.
Thompson stated, “I was hoping that Pep Lijnders, who has done an outstanding job thus far, would talk about it, even if it were Xabi Alonso or Steven Gerrard.””However, if they all depart likewise, everything will begin anew.” And it is common knowledge that regardless of the football club, it is difficult to replicate the challenges that Manchester United has encountered since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure when new personnel are brought in with various perspectives.
Thompson supports Lijnders.
It is now evident that Lijnders is not a viable candidate to succeed Klopp.
We can appreciate Thompson’s displeasure regarding that. Pep, who undoubtedly has an intimate understanding of the club and its players, would provide indispensable continuity.Nevertheless, regarding practical managerial expertise, it is indisputable that the Dutchman lacks sufficient qualifications.
As an instructor, few individuals are superior to him. Unrivaled in tactical expertise is Lijnders. He facilitates the sessions at Liverpool and enjoys widespread esteem within the club.Nevertheless, regarding practical managerial expertise, it is indisputable that the Dutchman lacks sufficient qualifications.

Therefore, we believe it is in the Reds’ best interest to pursue other options, specifically Alonso, who appears to be an excellent choice.
It is highly probable that Lijnders will commence his professional journey as a head coach at this time. Eventually, he might return to Liverpool.
But for the time being, Pep will shortly be farewell. His contribution to the halcyon years of Klopp will never be forgotten.
