Erin Cuthbert, a standout for Chelsea, describes “at times she can be quite critical of me” regarding the “interesting”
managerial style of Emma Hayes prior to the USWNT takeover.Erin Cuthbert has discussed her ‘strange’ relationship with Emma Hayes, the longtime manager of Chelsea.WHAT TURNED OUT?
Hayes acquired the Scotland international from Glasgow City for the club in 2017 when she was an adolescent; she has since developed into an indispensable member of the squad. Cuthbert has benefited from the Chelsea manager’s insight during this period, and she has now disclosed their professional relationship. As Cuthbert put it:
Cuthbert responded in an interview featured in the club’s matchday programme when asked about Hayes’ influence: “My relationship with Emma is quite intriguing. She is extremely demanding, but my best response is to hold her to it. I appreciate a challenge. Her calling me out or having difficult conversations with me is not an issue. Likewise, Emma is the first to compliment me, which I truly value given that she can be quite critical at times. “The only reason she has such high expectations for me, in my opinion, is because she is certain of my capabilities.”THE MUCH LARGER IMAGE
At the conclusion of the current season, Cuthbert and Hayes’ relationship will be severed as the Blues manager assumes the role of USWNT head coach. Although it is currently unknown who will replace her in the Chelsea hot seat, Casey Stoney, who recently inked a new contract with San Diego Wave, will not be that individual. It is believed that Elisabet Gunnarsdottir and Laura Harvey are among the candidates under consideration to replace Hayes, as the Chelsea squad has requested a female replacement.WHAT NEXT FOR CUTHBERT AND CHELSEA? Following Wednesday night’s tumultuous Champions League victory over Real Madrid, Cuthbert is presently reposing well-deservedly at Chelsea. The 25-year-old scored the game-winning goal and will be looking to keep the captain’s armband on Saturday when the Blues travel to Brighton for their WSL match.
