According to reports, Liverpool have begun negotiations for a £60 million star, but Manchester City could thwart the deal.Bolavip reports that Liverpool have initiated negotiations to acquire Argentine defensive midfielder Alan Varela, but are up against competition from Manchester City.

Liverpool have reportedly “engaged in discussions” with Porto about a possible transfer at the conclusion of the current campaign, while City have also conveyed their interest in the South American.

His performances have garnered the interest of two Premier League teams, and the 22-year-old has solidified his position as a key player for the Portuguese club.

Varela’s contract reportedly includes a release clause of €70 million (£60 million); it will be intriguing to see whether Liverpool or City are willing to pay that amount of money to acquire him.Prior to last summer, the Reds were willing to invest a considerable sum of money in Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. Both players were transferred to Chelsea, and it is common knowledge that Liverpool still requires the services of a competent defensive midfielder.

By enabling Alexis Mac Allister to perform in his natural position, the acquisition of Varela would strengthen Liverpool in the middle of the park.

Varela is highly proficient at thwarting offenses and regaining possession of the ball for his team. The Liverpool midfield would gain a new dimension, and they would be strengthened defensively as a result.

Varela could easily integrate with Liverpool.Physically and technically, the 22-year-old is well-suited for English football, and a transfer to Liverpool would represent a significant career advancement. His interest in playing for one of the most prestigious organizations in England is likely to be piqued, and he would have the opportunity to collaborate with Jurgen Klopp, a manager of international caliber. An opportunity such as transferring to Manchester City would be similarly appealing to the player. They have a history of contending for major trophies, and Pep Guardiola may be able to assist the 22-year-old in his continued development.

The potential resolution of the £60 million release clause is contingent on the financial resources of both organizations. If Manchester City were to irrevocably part ways with Kalvin Philips at the conclusion of the current season, Varela would serve as a suitable substitute.
