The Reason VAR Paul Tierney did not recommend a red card for the challenge made by Justin Kluivert on Luis Díaz of

Liverpool.A rout in the second half by Liverpool, which was secured by Diogo Jota and Darwin Nez with two goals each, was adequate to propel Jürgen Klopp’s squad to a five-point lead atop the Premier League standings. When the Reds applied the throttle, Bournemouth was simply unable to keep up.

However, during a close first half, little separated the two teams. Bournemouth began and concluded the first half strongly. Although Alisson Becker was scarcely involved and the Liverpool goal was never under attack, the Cherries did their best to establish their dominance and impede the visitors’ progress for the majority of the initial 45 minutes.

Around the 36-minute mark, Liverpool supporters were incensed by the powerful tackle delivered by Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert as the game appeared to be close. Winger Luis Díaz of Colombia was abandoned on the pitch.Díaz was able to proceed subsequent to obtaining medical attention from Liverpool personnel; however, replays revealed that the tackle that entangled the 26-year-old contained ankle studs. On the sidelines, Klopp was enraged that Kluivert had avoided a booking.

According to Liverpool.com, the VAR, Paul Tierney, reviewed the incident and determined that the tackle merely constituted a reckless challenge rather than a hazardous one. Although VAR cannot instruct the referee to book an individual for reckless tackles, any action that endangers an opponent results in a dismissal.

Jamie Carragher stated at halftime on Sky Sports, “In those types of situations, I don’t want to see the red card, but Liverpool will be frustrated because Curtis Jones was sent off for a similar incident away at Tottenham.” “When you see it in slow-motion, you think it’s a shocker, it’s a red card.”Regarding VAR’s evaluation, I have consistently maintained that an excessive deceleration is undesirable. Although it is a difficult challenge, I believe that [the referee] makes the correct call.

“Football is not a sport that I observe in slow motion. It appears to contain an adequate amount when observed at maximum velocity. However, frustration will undoubtedly ensue, which is to be expected given Curtis Jones’ red card against Tottenham.”

Liverpool.com states that Carragher attributes Liverpool’s frustration to the inconsistent nature of decision-making. Did Jones’s tackle equal the severity of Kluivert’s? Most likely not. Although VAR will never be flawless, it seems as though there will always be a prior judgment that can serve as a standard.
