Due to a $1.4 billion renovation of Jacksonville’s EverBank Stadium, the 2026 edition of the Florida–Georgia football rivalry will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the first time the game will not be played in Jacksonville since 1994.
Financial Information
In order to facilitate this change, AMB Sports & Entertainment, the parent company of the Atlanta Falcons and Mercedes-Benz Stadium, has consented to pay the University of Georgia and the University of Florida $7.5 million each for hosting the game in Atlanta. This agreement guarantees that both teams receive substantial compensation, despite the transient venue change. Furthermore, the City of Jacksonville will contribute $1.5 million to each school for the 2026 and 2027 events, resulting in a total of $3 million per school. This stipend is a component of a more broad-based accord to preserve the tradition of the rivalry.
Plans for the Future
The rivalry is scheduled to return to Jacksonville in 2028 following the 2027 game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. Jacksonville will provide each school with a minimum of $10 million for the 2028 and 2029 games under a new agreement. This amount will increase to $10.5 million for the 2030 and 2031 games. This guarantees the game’s return to its original location, while simultaneously offering substantial financial incentives for both programs.
The enduring significance of the Florida–Georgia rivalry and the dedication of all parties involved to its preservation and ongoing success are underscored by this transient relocation.
