At the esteemed NCA College Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida, the WVU All-Girl Competition Cheer Team won a National Championship championship.

Hundreds of collegiate cheer squads from all across the United States compete for national recognition in this fiercely contested event. Important Aspects of Their Win:

Perfect Performance:

*The team’s ability to do a “perfect routine” on the first day of the competition was a key component in their victory. Out of the 23 fiercely competitive teams in their division, this put them in first place right away.

* Consistency on Day Two:  They didn’t stop there. The squad repeated their triumph on Day Two, putting on another strong and accurate performance that sealed the national championship. Championship-level teams are known for their ability to remain consistent under duress.

* Overcoming Obstacles: In order to pay for their travel, lodging, meals, and competition fees for the journey to Daytona, the team must raise a sizable sum of money (more than $25,000 per year). Their fundraising activities, which included pageants, silent auctions, and cheer clinics, demonstrate their commitment. Their success on the mat was surely aided by this dedication off the mat.

* The “Mat Team”: Although the All-Girl squad has a bigger roster, only a few are chosen to compete as the “mat team.” In order to secure one of these coveted positions, athletes must put in year-round effort, with others acting as substitutes and continuously striving for advancement. Highlight of the Star Member: Raelyn Palmer

* Instrumental Role: Raelyn Palmer, a West Virginia University double major in psychology and communications, was singled out as a crucial player who helped guide the squad to this national championship.

* Freshman Feat: Raelyn was selected for the competitive “mat team” as a freshman, which is a remarkable achievement for a first-year athlete.

* Culmination of Dedication: Palmer saw the national championship as the result of years of dedication, sacrifice, and heart, illustrating the personal victory entwined with the team’s collective accomplishment. She also helped the team finish in second place at Nationals the year before.
