Like Father, Like Daughter: John Force Racing Duo Dominates NHRA Speed!

Drag racing wins are determined by elapsed times rather than speeds, but the John Force Racing team is having fun as “fast friends.”

Nobody would argue that John Force Racing (JFR) of the NHRA has an embarrassment of riches—after all, Austin Prock of Funny Car and Brittany Force of Top Fuel aren’t ashamed in the least that they boast the fastest speeds in the history of the sport.

More specifically, she holds the top seven and five fastest speeds in her class, including the record of 341.59 mph set at Charlotte this spring and two additional runs of 340 mph or more at Epping a week ago. Last November, N.H. Prock achieved the highest speed in all categories in the history of the sport, 341.59 mph, officially breaking the 340 mph speed barrier.
“Well, actually, right before I hit the wall, officially my rear tires were going 347, so I don’t know what you get for that,” said Jack Beckman, whose JFR Funny Car collided with the guard wall shortly after the launch in the opening round last weekend.

In drag racing, winners are determined by elapsed times rather than speeds.

“Remember, a high G-meter for 1,000 feet is a byproduct of speed,” Beckman added. “They just finally are figuring out how to balance that fuel system,” he claimed, quoting Force crew chief Dave Grubnic. The faster our cars go early when they enter ignition retard, the greater the gap between the start of the retard and the finish line.
