With their win in the super regional opener, the Razorbacks will play tomorrow afternoon for the chance to go to the College World Series. The second game between the Hogs and the Vols will start at 2 p.m. It will air on ESPN on June 8.

Root got the win, which raised his record to 8-5. It was his second playoff gem in as many games. He pitched seven innings of two-run ball (one earned) with six strikeouts against a tough Tennessee lineup. Gaeckle, on the other hand, pitched the last two frames and got his second save of the season by giving up one run and striking out two.

The Volunteers could only get two hits, and both of them were home runs. After a runner reached first on a mistake, Tennessee took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a two-run home run. In the top of the ninth, they hit a one-out solo home run.

On a wild ball in the bottom of the second, Arkansas scored the first run. The Razorbacks scored their first run when Cam Kozeal, who reached on a leadoff single and moved to third, raced home on a wild pitch.

Tennessee took the lead with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth inning. But Arkansas tied the game 3-2 when Ryder Helfrick hit his own two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning. The Arkansas catcher hit his 14th home run of the season. He now has 14 home runs in 15 playoff games, bringing his season slash line to.329/.450/.659.

In the sixth, Charles Davalan hit an RBI single with two outs, giving the Hogs a two-run lead. Before giving the ball to Gaeckle to finish the game, Root worked a scoreless seventh inning. Gaeckle earned Arkansas’ 4-3 win in the first game of the super regional.

In the win on Saturday, three Razorbacks, including Davalan (2-for-3, RBI), finished with multiple hits. Arkansas had 10 hits in the game, with Logan Maxwell (2-for-3) and Brent Iredale (2-for-4) each getting two or more hits.

Arkansas can go to Omaha for the 12th time in program history and the eighth time under Dave Van Horn (2003–present). They did this in 1979, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2004, 2009, 2012, 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2022. We believe they can do it again tomorrow.
