ALWAYS WITH US!! New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr has announced his retirement.

Carr: “I’ve made the decision to retire from the National Football League after giving it some thought and talking to Heather.”

Derek was getting ready for the 2025 season in late March when he started to feel soreness in his right shoulder. He had not thrown a football with such force since he recovered from a left hand injury and concussion he had suffered during play on December 8, 2024. Derek called the Saints Medical Team right away.

Derek eventually had a labral tear and extensive degenerative alterations to his rotator cuff, as proven objectively by medical scans.

Since then, the Saints Medical Team, Derek’s attorney, and outside medical specialists have collaborated to decide on the best course of action. Surgery was an option, compromising the entire 2025 season, although there was no guarantee Derek would return to the level of strength, function and performance of play to which he was accustomed.

Derek has determined that retiring from the National Football League is best for his family and the Saints organization after speaking with his wife, Heather.

“Upon reflection of prayer, and in discussion with Heather, I’ve decided to retire from the National Football League,” Carr said. We have been extraordinarily fortunate for over 11 years, and we will always be appreciative and humbled by this experience. It’s hard to put into words how grateful we are to all of the players, coaches, ownership, management, club officials, and most importantly, the fans who helped make this journey so memorable. Your steadfast assistance has been invaluable to us.
