Would any NFL team consider hiring Bill Belichick? One possibility is particularly noteworthy.

It appeared inevitable that Bill Belichick would secure another NFL head-coaching position after the Patriots terminated his tenure. Since then, the atmosphere has transitioned from one of certainty to one of impossibility.

However, we believe that there is still one team that warrants attention.

It was discussed during Wednesday’s PFT Live, when Simms and I were identifying coaches who must achieve more than just making the playoffs in 2025.

While Todd Bowles has won the NFC South in each of his three seasons as Tampa Bay’s head coach, the Buccaneers have a distinctive history with respect to the coaching position. In 2009, they abruptly replaced Jon Gruden with Raheem Morris. Greg Schiano was employed three years later. They unexpectedly terminated Lovie Smith in 2016, reportedly to prevent Dirk Koetter from joining another team as offensive coordinator. And there are still those who maintain the belief that Tom Brady’s unretirement in 2022 (following his unsuccessful attempt to relocate to Miami) was contingent upon Bruce Arians being encouraged to retire.

Michael Lombardi, Belichick’s consigliere, was disseminating a false rumor that Bowles may retire after the season last year. (Bowles promptly terminated that activity.) However, this prompted rumors that Belichick was considering the Buccaneers.

Therefore, why would Lombardi attempt to create a vacancy through speech? May be due to the fact that it is one of the positions that Belichick would desire.

Despite the recent events, the Buccaneers remain a viable option for Belichick. Again, they employed Greg Schiano.

A significant portion of the outcome is contingent upon the actions of the Buccaneers and the Tar Heels in 2025. Nevertheless, it is incorrect to presume that no one at the NFL level will be interested in Belichick, as his buyout has been reduced to $1 million as of last Sunday. The Buccaneers possess the potential; if ownership determines that an exceptional game-day coach could return them to the summit, the situation is not as absurd as it may appear.

We are not advocating that Bowles should be terminated from his position. We are simply striving to remain at the forefront of the industry. And the curve could indeed bend in unanticipated ways in Tampa.

Why? Because it has occurred previously. Numerous times.
