Results from the NHRA New England Nationals: Brittany Force, who is lightning-fast, beats Surging Tony Stewart

This weekend at the NHRA New England Nationals, the best tip for Top Fuel records was to always have an eraser on hand.

With a dominant performance Sunday in Epping, New Hampshire, including two passes at over 340 mph and a.007-second victory margin over Tony Stewart, who advanced to his fifth consecutive final round, Brittany Force destroyed her own New England Dragway speed record from the previous year.

The class reset the previous year’s track record, which had belonged to Force at 335.57 mph, six times. Although Doug Kalitta, Justin Ashley, and Antron Brown took turns in the spotlight, Force emerged victorious with a blast of 341.42 mph. (As of last November, Austin Prock of Funny Car still holds the record for the fastest speed in the history of the sport, 341.68).

A late-Saturday engine explosion was overcome by Funny Car veteran J.R. Todd. And after defeating his arch-enemy Erica Enders, Greg Anderson retained all the Pro Stock trophies at his KB Titan headquarters, preventing her from earning her historic 50th career victory.
