The most important question about the Alabama Crimson Tide during the offseason has been which quarterback will end up being the team’s starter.
People have high hopes for Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer because he is coaching under Nick Saban. He was on “The Next Round,” a podcast about the SEC, to talk about the newest news about the college football powerhouse.
When questioned directly about the Tide’s starting quarterback debate and whether he was 100% sure Ty Simpson will start in Week 1, the 50-year-old coach was quite clear about how the team handles its quarterback room.
“We’ll keep letting those players fight it out during fall camp. DeBoer stated, “If we played a game today, Ty (Simpson) has made a lot of progress in the 15 practices we had there (in spring).”
“We also want to give the other men a chance to keep pushing and fighting for the slot. I want to be careful with how I say this: the complete group still needs to get better for us to do what we need to do, even in Week 1 versus Florida State. I’m happy with the progress they’ve made, starting with Ty. I’m happy with what he’s doing. In the next few weeks, they all need to keep moving forward.
It looks like Simpson will be the team’s starting quarterback, but it’s still up in the air between him, Austin Mack, and Keelon Russell.
The Crimson Tide relied a lot on Jalen Milroe, their quarterback, over the past two seasons. The Seattle Seahawks picked him in the third round last month. The program needs someone to step up as the quarterback, but that’s hard for Alabama because every year, there will be competition for every position, even quarterback.
