“Homecoming Queens! Texas Tech Plans Grand Welcome for History-Making Softball Squad.”

To celebrate the return of the National Runner-Up softball program following its remarkable run at the Women’s College World Series, Texas Tech Athletics is urging Red Raider Nation to swarm Rocky Johnson Field on Saturday afternoon.

WCWS Fan Greeting

On Saturday, gates will open at 1 p.m., and the Red Raiders are anticipated to arrive at Rocky Johnson Field by 2 p.m. Parking is allowed in the lots right outside Rocky Johnson Field, and admission is free.

In less than a year, the Red Raiders went from being a bubble team to the pinnacle of college softball, and their historic run to the Women’s World Series this season captivated the nation’s attention. Over the course of head coach Gerry Glasco’s first season, Texas Tech improved despite having just three players from the previous season. They went on to win the Big 12 regular season and tournament crowns before making their first appearance as hosts of the NCAA Regional round.

Texas Tech advanced to the championship series versus Texas after winning 13 of their final 15 games of the season, including victories over two WCWS heavyweights, Oklahoma and UCLA. Friday night’s 10-4 loss to Texas in the final game of the WCWS championship series marked the end of the epic season.
