Carroll’s Bold Stance: Raiders Aren’t Playing for the Future, They’re Playing to Win Now

This year the team has new leaders, but he doesn’t want the rest of the NFL to see this as a time of change.

A lot is riding on the Las Vegas Raiders’ shoulders for the 2025 season, especially now that coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Geno Smith have joined the team.

With a 4-13 record, the Raiders had their worst season since the 2018 season. They finished at the bottom of the AFC West standings. Since there are new people in charge, the Raiders hope to do better than they did last year.

While the Raiders are going through a rough year, Carroll doesn’t want the rest of the NFL to be easy on them. A few months before the season starts, he thinks they’re already ready to show NFL fans what they can do.

“A great deal of hope for us. We’re going to do it. Carroll told Jeremy Bergman of Around the NFL on Monday, “We’re not holding back.” This is not something we want: a grace time or anything like that. We’re not going to do that. We’re going to get it now.”

Let’s see how the Raiders do in 2025 and if they can live up to what Carroll said. They do have a tough division. The Kansas City Chiefs, the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Denver Broncos all made the playoffs last year. The Chiefs have been to five Super Bowls in the last six seasons.

This year, Las Vegas should at least try to get a winning record. That would be a big step up from last year. Another thing is that they haven’t won a game since 2021. You can check back in January to see if Carroll’s team goals have been met.

Carroll is only four times out of 18 seasons as a head coach that his team finished the year with a losing record. That’s not very often. The worst record he ever had was 6-10 with the New York Jets in 1994. That means the 2024 season with the Raiders was the worst of all the ones he has had.
