Highly-regarded linebacker prospect Xavier Griffin, one of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s top targets in the 2026 recruiting class regardless of position, has now officially committed.
Griffin will make his announcement on June 29 on his choice between Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State, and Texas, according to a report from Hayes Fawcett of On3.
In addition to the article, Steve Wiltfong, a recruiting analyst for On3, has predicted that Griffin will ultimately commit to Alabama. Griffin is presently ranked as the second linebacker in the cycle and the 27th overall player in the country’s 2026 class, per the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings. Griffin, who attends Gainesville High School in Georgia, is a five-star recruit and the fourth-ranked player in the state.
Griffin, who was previously pledged to the Trojans from July 2024 to May 2025, is also a past USC commit. Only five players have committed to Alabama’s 2026 recruiting class thus far, including four-star edge rusher Jamarion Matthews, Griffin’s teammate at Gainesville. Three of those five commitments are currently from Georgia as well.
Over the last three seasons, the Raiders have had seven quarterbacks. Perhaps the team’s new starter, Geno Smith, is superior to all of them.
Smith was acquired by the Raiders in a March trade with the Seahawks, giving the team some continuity at the position that they haven’t had since Derek Carr left following the 2022 campaign.
