Wolves sign Leeds United striker, Kalvin Phillips and Bristol City talisman in starting XI if transfer rumours are true

What Wolves’ starting XI could look like after the January transfer window, should the current rumours prove accurate.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have endured a subdued first transfer window under Rob Edwards, despite a miserable opening half of the campaign and an increasing sense that relegation to the Championship is looming.

The club are yet to bring in any first-team reinforcements, even though they have been linked with players from a wide range of clubs – from Spanish giants Barcelona to Championship promotion contenders Bristol City.

To date, Wolves’ only notable business has seen Marshall Munetsi and Ki-Jana Hoever depart on loan, joining Paris FC and Sheffield United respectively for the remainder of the season.

However, that could soon change. With speculation intensifying around both potential arrivals and exits, attention has turned to how Wolves might shape up heading into February and beyond.

Predicted Wolves line-up: defence and goalkeeper

Goalkeeper – José Sá: The Portuguese shot-stopper has reclaimed his place between the sticks and now appears set to remain first choice for the rest of the campaign, having moved ahead of Sam Johnstone. Although his performances early in the season were below par, his form has noticeably improved since the turn of the year.

Right wing-back – Jackson Tchatchoua: Wolves are expected to stick with a back three system, with Tchatchoua continuing at wing-back. Based on performances so far this season, he looks likely to keep Matt Doherty out of the side.

Centre-back – Yerson Mosquera: Mosquera has enjoyed increased game time under Edwards and has grown in confidence as a result. The Colombian defender is expected to feature regularly between now and the end of the season.

Centre-back – Santiago Bueno: The 27-year-old has also seen more minutes in recent weeks and could play an important role as Wolves attempt to become more competitive during the run-in.

Centre-back – Ladislav Krejčí: One of Wolves’ standout performers this season, Krejčí has impressed with his versatility. While he has been used in a number of roles, central defence remains his strongest position.

Left wing-back – Hugo Bueno: Since returning from his loan spell at Feyenoord, Bueno has put together a strong run of performances and currently appears to be ahead of David Møller Wolfe in the selection hierarchy.

Predicted Wolves line-up: midfield and attack

Central midfield – Kalvin Phillips: Wolves have been linked with a move for the former Leeds United captain following a difficult spell at Manchester City. With minutes hard to come by this season, Phillips could be viewed as a solution if someone like João Gomes were to move on.

Central midfield – André: Despite reported interest from Liverpool, André is expected to remain at Molineux until at least the summer.

Attacking midfield – Anis Mehmeti: The Bristol City playmaker has caught the eye with a strong first half of the campaign and is believed to be on the radar of both Wolves and Ipswich Town. With his contract expiring in the summer, he could be available for a reduced fee.

Attacking midfield – Mateus Mané: The highly-rated 18-year-old has been a rare positive in an otherwise bleak season. His fearless approach and determination to make an impact have lifted both fans and teammates, and he looks destined for a bright future.

Striker – Joel Piroe:With Jørgen Strand Larsen expected to leave, Leeds United forward Piroe has been touted as a potential replacement arriving at Molineux.
