Reason why Liverpool player Joel Matip is set to be absent from matches till the end of the season

Reds players are hurt ahead of their game against Sheffield United.
Joel Matip will not be able to play for Liverpool for the rest of the season.

Following a 4-3 win over Fulham on December 3, the back tore his ACL and has been out of action for four months.

Matip had to have surgery and has been recovering ever since. After taking some time off, the 32-year-old is back running on the grass at the AXA Training Centre. However, he probably won’t play again in Liverpool’s Premier League title run-in.

Head coach Klopp said of Joel before Thursday night’s game against Sheffield United at Anfield: “He is running.” He doesn’t like that, but he can run again, which is good. Since he hurt himself, this is the best time because it hurt so much at first. He is in a lot of pain. He got through it and is no longer in pain, but it will take time. This season is too short, in my opinion.

At the same time, Andy Robertson will be able to play against Sheffield United. The left back hurt his ankle last week while playing for Scotland in a 1-0 loss to Northern Ireland. He missed the 2-1 win over Brighton because of it. Klopp did say at the end of his press session that Robertson is back and ready to play.
