The Minnesota Vikings don’t need another quarterback right now, but it might make sense for them to get better after J.J. McCarthy, who is expected to start.
CNN’s Ben Solak and Seth Walder both suggested deals on June 4 in which the Minnesota Vikings would send either backup quarterback Sam Howell or a conditional Day 3 pick, along with cash, to the Atlanta Falcons so Kirk Cousins could join them again.
But another option would be to combine the assets offered in both trades and use them to get a much younger quarterback who could compete with McCarthy over the next couple of years as he learns under head coach Kevin O’Connell.
A lot of people in the league think that Minnesota is the best place for a young quarterback because of the team’s ability and O’Connell’s steady hand. Sending Howell and a late Day 2 or early Day 3 pick to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for Anthony Richardson could work for both teams if Daniel Jones, a former Vikings quarterback, beats Richardson for the starting quarterback job in Indianapolis during the preseason or later in the season.
