Ibrahima Konate names surprise role model as he rebuffs PSG talk.

Having been surrounded by PSG players during his tenure with France, Ibrahima Konate dismissed any notions that he was being pressured to join the Ligue 1.

Six of the last seven matches have seen the 24-year-old feature since his return from injury earlier this season; he is an indispensable member of Liverpool’s defense. In October, following a September absence due to a hamstring injury, he was called up to the French national team for the international break.

This necessitated a discussion with the French media this week in which he was queried regarding any efforts by PSG players to entice him back to his native country.

He exhaled and responded, “I will not provide an answer regarding their activities!” However, while it is true that I am from Paris, I am currently in Liverpool.”

Konate is under contract with Anfield until 2026, and on Friday, when France face the Netherlands, he will clash with his club captain.Le Parisien interviewed Konate, who stated unequivocally that his objective is to “have a better career” than Van Dijk; however, he cited an alternative Liverpool legend as an inspiration.

Konate remarked of Liverpool’s No. 4: “Very few defenders have had careers as successful as his.”

“Working with him teaches me a great deal.” My objective is to have a more successful career than he does, and he is well aware of this. Subsequently, he stated, “Sergio Ramos has long been my foremost [exemplar].”

Obviously, Ramos was involved in the incident that caused Mohamed Salah to be substituted prematurely in the 2018 Champions League following the Real Madrid defender’s over-the-top tackle. This summer, Ramos, who is now 37 years old and has been a senior for over two decades, rejoined his boyhood club Sevilla as a free agent.

Liverpool will hope that Konate has the capacity to achieve such endurance, as the Frenchman has demonstrated that he, barring injury complications, can serve as a pillar of the club’s defense for the foreseeable future.
