‎Exclusive: Conor Coady undergoes Charlton Athletic medical with transfer agreed

Charlton Athletic are set to bring in Conor Coady on loan from Wrexham after the two clubs reached an agreement, Football Insider sources have revealed.

The 32-year-old defender is expected to spend the remainder of the season with Nathan Jones’ side as they look to bolster their back line with proven experience. With terms now in place, Coady is scheduled to complete a medical before the move is finalised.

Coady has found opportunities limited since his switch from Leicester City to Wrexham, making only six appearances, and the temporary exit will allow him to pursue more consistent game time.

Although he remains under contract at Wrexham until 2027 after signing a two-year deal last summer, his longer-term situation is now uncertain.

The former England international arrived at Wrexham amid strong interest from clubs including Rangers and Wolves and was expected to play a key role in their promotion push.

However, he has struggled to cement a regular place under Phil Parkinson and is now targeting a fresh start as Charlton look to pull clear of relegation trouble.

The Addicks currently sit 19th in the Championship, three points above the drop zone, and are hoping added leadership will help them strengthen their position in the second half of the campaign. Jones has prioritised experience in the market, with Coady’s influence and organisational qualities viewed as major positives.

Coady is set to join recent additions Lyndon Dykes, Harry Clarke and Luke Chambers at The Valley during a busy transfer window for Charlton.

Meanwhile, Wrexham continue to work on potential reinforcements of their own. Football Insider reported earlier this month that the club have submitted a record £19million bid for Angers forward Sidiki Cherif.

The 19-year-old has scored four goals in 19 Ligue 1 appearances this season and remains under contract until 2029, though Angers could consider a sale.

Parkinson was recently in France to watch Cherif in action, including Angers’ goalless draw with Paris FC, where the teenager was forced off after taking a knock to his ankle.
