ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ returns to Texas vs. Ohio State for Lee Corso’s final episode.

Lee Corso’s final “College GameDay” will take place in Columbus, Ohio.

ESPN said Tuesday that their pregame show would focus on Ohio State’s Week 1 game against Texas. The network said earlier this year that Corso, 89, would perform one farewell show before retiring after nearly 40 years with the network.
The popularity of “GameDay” skyrocketed once the pregame show began traveling from university to campus in 1993. Corso made his first mascot prediction in October 1996, when he wore Brutus the Buckeye’s head and chose Ohio State over Penn State.

Corso’s picks became increasingly intricate over time, culminating in the finale of “GameDay” just before the network’s first football game of the day.

Despite the fact that Fox owns the television rights to the game, the selection of Ohio State’s game against Texas for the first “GameDay” of the season is not surprising. The College Football Playoff rematch is the highlight of the first weekend, following Ohio State’s victory against Texas in the Cotton Bowl playoff semifinal on their path to the national championship. The game will also mark Texas quarterback Arch Manning’s first Week 1 start as the Longhorns’ starter for the third season.

If “GameDay” had not gone to Columbus, the obvious alternative would have been to travel to Tallahassee, Florida. Corso played football at Florida State, where he shared a room with famed actor Burt Reynolds, and the Seminoles will visit Alabama in Week 1.
