Coventry City are stepping up negotiations over a potential move for Brentford holding midfielder Frank Onyeka ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

The 28-year-old is also on Sheffield United’s radar and is expected to make a decision on his next move within the next day.
Brentford are willing to sanction a transfer for the Nigeria international following his growing frustration at limited first-team minutes under Keith Andrews, having faced a similar situation during Thomas Frank’s spell in charge.
Frank Lampard’s Coventry remain three points clear at the summit of the Championship but have won only twice in their last six league outings and have not recorded a clean sheet since 26 December.
Sheffield United sit 17th in the table yet are still not completely ruled out of the play-off picture in a tightly packed division, trailing the top six by nine points.
