Confirmed: Birmingham City seal third January signing as £16m-rated star arrives

Birmingham City have bolstered their attacking ranks by securing the services of Ghanaian winger Ibrahim Osman.

The Blues have brought the 21-year-old in on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion until the end of the season, giving Osman his first opportunity to play English football. Brighton opted to terminate his temporary spell at French club Auxerre, where he featured in 14 Ligue 1 matches and registered two assists.

Osman arrived at Brighton in an £16 million move 18 months ago but has yet to make a breakthrough into their senior side, spending his time on loan at Feyenoord and Auxerre. His most productive spell came in the Netherlands last season, when he scored three goals and provided three assists in 22 Eredivisie appearances for Feyenoord, alongside seven outings in the Champions League.

Birmingham City had been eager to add width to their squad after a proposed move for Abdoulie Manneh fell through last week.

Osman, a right-footed wide player capable of playing on either flank, is expected to add depth and competition for Demarai Gray and Patrick Roberts during the second half of the campaign.

He becomes the club’s third loanee from Brighton this season, following James Beadle and Eiran Cashin, who has since joined Blackburn Rovers. Osman is also Birmingham City’s third signing of the January transfer window, after the arrivals of Kai Wagner and Jhon Solis.
