Charlton Athletic confirm arrival of Luke Chambers

Charlton Athletic have confirmed the arrival of Luke Chambers on loan from Premier League giants Liverpool.

The 21-year-old left-sided defender has joined the Addicks for the rest of the 2025/26 season, becoming their third addition of the transfer window after the signings of Harry Clarke and Lyndon Dykes.

Charlton Managing Director James Rodwell said bolstering the left side of the defence and the wing-back areas had been a major focus, and expressed his delight at securing a player the club have tracked for some time. He described Chambers as technically strong, athletic and progressive in possession, while also thanking Liverpool for their cooperation in completing the deal.

Head coach Nathan Jones echoed those sentiments, explaining that the club had worked hard to recruit a player capable of making an immediate impact on the left, including at wing-back. Jones highlighted Chambers’ pedigree, noting his development through Liverpool’s academy and experience with their first team, and said he was eager to work with the young defender.

Speaking after completing the move, Chambers said he was thrilled to join Charlton, praising the club’s passionate fanbase and the atmosphere at The Valley, which he experienced first-hand last season. He added that he is excited to get started, particularly with a big fixture coming up at the weekend.

Born in Preston, Chambers joined Liverpool at just six years old and rose through the academy ranks, signing his first professional contract in 2021. He went on to win the UEFA Under-19 European Championship with England the following year.

The defender enjoyed a productive loan spell at Kilmarnock during the second half of the 2022/23 season before making his Liverpool debut under Jürgen Klopp in a Carabao Cup victory over Leicester City in September 2023. He later featured three times in the Europa League, including starts against Toulouse and Union Saint-Gilloise, and spent the latter part of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Wigan Athletic.

After featuring under Arne Slot during Liverpool’s pre-season tour in the summer of 2024, Chambers returned to Wigan on a season-long loan, before now linking up with the Addicks.

Charlton are back in action at The Valley on Friday, February 6th, when they face Queens Park Rangers.
